NOVATO, CA, October 03, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Biosearch Technologies, Inc. (Biosearch), a leading supplier of sophisticated oligonucleotide components to the rapidly growing molecular diagnostics industry, today announced that on September 16th, 2009, the company licensed from Roche Molecular Systems (Roche), a family of patents covering practice of the 5' Nuclease process. Biosearch becomes the first commercial oligonucleotide manufacturer to take the Roche license which confers Biosearch rights under the Roche patents to manufacture and sell dual-labeled probes for use in 5' Nuclease assays for internal research in the diagnostics field.
Marc Beal, Director of Corporate Development at Biosearch, comments, "After licensing the Roche patents, Biosearch now intends to provide dual-labeled 5' Nuclease probes to the growing number of Roche licensed CLIA labs providing molecular diagnostic services. Roche licensed probes will be provided as custom ASRs, IVD and research quality oligo components. In addition, Biosearch is licensed to catalogue dual-labeled 5' Nuclease probes for Roche licensed human IVD (H-IVD) applications. This license is integral to Biosearch's business plan of providing the highest quality oligos for use in H-IVD applications."
As the inventors of BHQ (Black Hole Quencher ), CAL Fluor , and Quasar dye technology, Biosearch will provide access to gold standard 5' Nuclease probes for human IVD testing labs around the world. The Roche license provides freedom to operate, with respect to the Roche IP estate, for qPCR processes in the Diagnostic Research Field.
To further enable the development of molecular diagnostics, Biosearch offers assay design capabilities through its web-based, RealTimeDesign (RTD ) software, a free qPCR assay design application. RTD software's underlying ProbeIty platform is licensed from Celadon Laboratories, Inc., and is protected by US Patent No. 7,565,248 B2 (Computer System for Designing Oligonucleotides Used in Biochemical Methods).
