Phoenix / Mesa Law Firm Publishes E-Book to Help Companies Avoid "Ten Fatal Mistakes"
Phoenix / Mesa law firm of Gibson Ferrin & Riggs, PLC provides free information to help companies avoid "Ten Fatal Mistakes."
PHOENIX / MESA, AZ, May 28, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Failure to plan may be the biggest legal issue affecting companies; however, many problems that business owners face could be avoided by simply implementing prudent legal and business practices.
"Unless you make time for the important but not urgent aspects of your business they will remain quietly on the sideline until it is too late," says attorney Scott F. Gibson, founding partner of Gibson Ferrin & Riggs. "Failure to plan can lead to disastrous consequences for your business."
Gibson, who has been practicing business law for more than 20 years, has identified 10 mistakes that business owners often make when they fail to focus on the things that can help them achieve long-term growth and prosperity.
"Each of these mistakes can be deadly for a business," he says, "but each is preventable with proper planning and preparation."
Gibson gives real-life examples that illustrate how easily these mistakes can arise in any business and offers specific advice in his new e-book, "Ten Fatal Mistakes that Business Owners Make (And How to Avoid Them)." He offers the information in a free e-book, downloadable from the firm's website at www.gfrlaw.net/firmpublications.aspx.
During his years of experience in commercial litigation, Gibson has seen repeatedly that failure to plan leaves a company vulnerable. The most common mistakes involve: Failing to set up a proper business entity, maintaining corporate formalities, segregating business enterprises into distinct entities, using a qualified statutory agent, establishing and properly funding a buy-sell agreement, creating and regularly updating an estate plan, following state and federal employment laws, setting up reasonable restrictive covenants and protecting intangible assets.
"Avoiding these mistakes is fundamental to the success of your business," Gibson says.
Some of these mistakes simply involve formalities that can lead to problems down the road but are easily avoided if taken care of when establishing a new business, he explains. "Unless you set a proper foundation for your business, you are waiting for problems that inevitably will come."
"No matter what your business is, treat it like a real business," Gibson urges.
Other mistakes are made as companies thrive and expand but fail to review and update their business plans, minimize the possibility of unfair competition, protect valuable assets, or keep current on employment practices and legal requirements.
Develop and implement a plan for addressing the "Ten Fatal Mistakes," Gibson recommends. "Don't hesitate, follow that plan through conclusion."
"Running a successful business is hard work in any economic environment," he adds. "Avoid the 'Ten Fatal Mistakes' and help your business succeed."
Gibson also encourages readers to share the helpful information he has provided.
"Please feel free to post this e-book on your blog or e-mail it to whomever you believe would benefit from reading it," he says.
